Thank you to everyone who joined us in Hobart, Tasmania, for the ANZSO Conference (ANZSOC), held from the 2nd to the 5th of September 2025. ANZSOC 2025 marked 21 years since the annual conference was last held in Tasmania, our unique island state.
The theme of ANZSOC 2025 was Towards Equity in Stroke. Across the program, we highlighted the great advances that have been made in reducing the incidence and improving the outcomes of stroke, while also recognising that disparities in access to prevention, acute care and rehabilitation remain. Together, we explored how these inequities can be addressed by sex or gender, age, socioeconomic status, geographic location and stroke type.
Tasmania proved to be the ideal setting for these discussions, with its unique characteristics as an entirely regional state facing high levels of socioeconomic deprivation and an ageing population. These challenges also created opportunities for innovation and collaboration across the health and community sectors to reduce the burden of stroke.
Beyond the conference program, delegates enjoyed exploring Tasmania’s natural environment, with hiking, biking and boating all close to Hobart. Many also visited Australia’s largest private museum, MONA; indulged in world-class food and wine; and experienced the iconic Salamanca Markets.
We sincerely thank all attendees, speakers, and partners who contributed to making ANZSOC 2025 such a memorable and impactful event.
